I first heard about the word ‘minimalism’ when I came across ‘apple’,when my brother purchased his first Iphone, circa 2012.
What struck me was its packaging- clean,simple and elegant.You may say,the packaging itself was a piece or art- which I still have with me currently to store some accessories.
I started to learn about it while practicing & learning photography, first of all I didn’t have a lot of equipments or subjects to start off with. I used to take radom images of pen,pencil, friends,kitchen utensils and etc.
One thing I learnt while practicing was about how scarcity can also teach you to become minimal and minimalism.
It also taught me :
How to use negative space to make your subject look grand.
How using few items or resources can force you to become creative.
How minimalism can help you remove distraction.
How minimalism can teach you to focus
The same can be said about marketing and branding these days, this art mastered by Apple is now widely adapted or rather copied throughout this cut throat world of marketing and selling.
In my limited experience with branding and marketing, I have seen many company move out of their messy,clumsy 3d animations and poster to 2d and minimal style of advertisement which has helped to focus on few things rather trying to strike out a balance between 10 different elements and colors.
If you look at any poster of Apple, if you look closely enough you brain will start interpreting it on its own.
Isn’t that amazing? By just showing a poster you can entice your viewers brain into thinking about it which does help create a long term impression about the brand, doesn’t matter what you’re selling but it matters how you are projecting your products and services.Minimalism also brings along a better section of audience,not trying to offend anyone here.Minimalism isn’t for mass market products or services, where you need to show the rainbow colors and use sex(maybe?) to push your products or services.
